At Euro Environmental Ltd, we find it important to highlight the fact that both new and refurbished buildings can pose a genuine health risk to occupants. This could be through the emission of harmful pollutants from materials utilised in the construction, fit out and finishing works - such as paint and furnishings. Couple this with improperly designed ventilation strategies which can lead to a build-up of airborne compounds, and there’s potential for incredibly dangerous environments.

Together, issues can cause a deterioration in the air quality of the building which can lead to adverse health effects, many of which are long-term, and some of which can even be deadly. In response to this, we offer indoor air quality monitoring services and air quality testing consultancy to identify pollutants and provide benchmarks to ensure such problems don’t arise. To achieve the building certification standard you want you may need to carry out an initial detailed assessment of air quality followed by ongoing long-term monitoring. Typical indoor air quality pollutants that require monitoring range from volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to key gas indicators such as carbon dioxide.

Levels of VOCs and formaldehyde will typically be at their highest soon after a building is refurbished or constructed while other pollutants can be an issue for the life span of the building. This is why regular indoor air quality monitoring services are needed.
