Exposure To Noise In The Workplace Can Lead To Deafness, Tinnitus & More.


The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 places a duty on employers to ensure that noise exposure levels are reduced to meet the current exposure limits and a specific requirement is placed on employers to ensure health surveillance is conducted.

The aim of the Noise Regulations is to ensure that workers' hearing is protected from excessive noise at their place of work, which could cause them to lose their hearing and/or to suffer from tinnitus (permanent ringing in the ears).

The level at which employers must provide hearing protection and hearing protection zones is now 85 decibels (daily or weekly average exposure) and the level at which employers must assess the risk to workers' health and provide them with information and training is now 80 decibels.

We offer complimentary noise awareness training for your team to meet the requirements of regulation 10 CNAWR 2005 with every risk assessment. 

ActionsActions and advice

A workplace noise survey aims to identify those activities within a workplace that might increase daily exposure levels above the lower action level. We will carry out the noise assessment in a systematic manner to ensure that the noise levels have been measured within all relevant activities of a site.

Our expert noise measurement consultants will gather noise levels using a combination of static and personal readings, utilising hand-held sound metres and dosimeter badges to do this. Recommendations are then formulated based on the readings.

These recommendations will typically include no action required, hearing protection must be provided or hearing protection is mandatory.
